“I was walking high above two beautiful bush blocks that had come up for sale and that logging companies were keen to buy. I thought about what might happen if someone didn’t protect that land. I imagined a scene of grey tree skeletons and burning stumps.” – Bob Brown
Tasmania’s Liffey Valley is home to the spectacular and endangered Manna Gum Wet Forest, a sanctuary for significant species, such as the vulnerable Spotted-tail Quoll and the rare Maidenhair Spleenwort Fern.
It’s here, on the Liffey River Walking Track that you can wander through magical rainforest, open grassland, river flats and forested ridgelines. You might even spot a Platypus swimming in the river.
The Liffey Valley is where it all started. It’s where Bush Heritage Australia and the idea of protecting our most precious ecosystems, forever, was born.
Now, more than 30 years after Bob Brown and a number of visionary supporters saved those two precious bush blocks, we’re working across millions of hectares of incredible ecosystems.
Many vulnerable species find safety and refuge on our reserves and partnership properties. From far north Queensland to the Kimberley, from the south coast of Western Australia to outback South Australia and the midlands of Tasmania, we’re protecting and renewing native habitats. We’re proud of what we have achieved and thankful to our many, many supporters who have made it possible. But we need to do more. And we still need your help.
The Liffey Valley still needs us, as do so many other landscapes around our beautiful country.
Please help us protect, support and build resilience. We cannot do it without your support.
Donations over $2 are tax-deductible and we can’t thank you enough for your support.
